Know exactly what you're entitled to. A complete guide to statutory redundancy pay, notice periods, and how to check your employer is paying you correctly.

What is statutory redundancy pay?

Statutory redundancy pay is the legal minimum your employer must pay you if you're made redundant. You're entitled to it if you've been employed for 2 or more years.

How much are you entitled to?

Your redundancy pay depends on your age and length of service:

  • Half a week's pay for each full year under 22
  • One week's pay for each full year aged 22-40
  • One and a half week's pay for each full year aged 41 and over

Length of service is capped at 20 years. Weekly pay is capped at £700 (as of 2024).

Notice period

You're entitled to a minimum notice period:

  • 1 week if employed 1 month to 2 years
  • 1 week for each year if employed 2-12 years
  • 12 weeks if employed 12+ years
